25.01.2014. Are you off celebrating Burns night tonight?
Unfortunately, I’m not going to be at a party tonight in person but will be at one in thought. Having lived in Scotland, I appreciate the event more than I did before moving up there. I’ve had some really great Burns suppers over the years and if you’ve never been to one, I’d encourage you to put it on your bucket list.
Last years was amazing, hosted by the Caledonian club (a Private Members Club for Scots) in London when rather than just piping in the haggis and doing the usual speeches, the event went into much more detail on the background – educational but oh so funny.
It’s been a good day today. I took up photography seriously last year and started an online diploma. Today, I’ve been into Manchester Photographic for an interactive session – learned some really useful tips and certainly developed by skills further. Looking forward to attending another session in a few weeks
1.1.2014. A New Year, a new start, a new opportunity.
What does 2014 mean to you? For me, it’s all these things. It’s the chance to carry on the significant progress I made in 2013 to create the life that I desire. A life full of opportunity, a life full of fun, a life full of new experiences and a life full of laughter.
I’m really looking forward to realising this lifestyle in 2013. What this means is that I need to build my business development activities so that I have a team of people delivering our core consultancy offering, rather than being reliant on my time to deliver projects. In addition, I need to continue to develop and deliver my online business. This will result in me being location independent and allow me to follow my other passions of travel, photography and cycling.
We have already scheduled in some travel – we will be visiting Venice again in February and a tour of France in the summer. We also hope to take in New York at some stage so lots of photography opportunities – the 2014 photo book promises to be a cracker!
In terms of my cycling passion, I’m hoping to invest in an updated carbon fibre bike and take in another challenge – I’m looking at the Milan to Monaco or Paris – Nice rides, ahead of an attempt on the Lands End – John O’Groats ultimate challenge in 2015.
19.12.13. It’s safe to say that I’ve had better days than today!
I found out that the interim role that I’ve been undertaking has been advertised, not for a permanent replacement (which was expected) but for a more senior interim person – feels like I’ve been given a kick in the balls, if I’m honest! Especially considering that I then had to spend the day in a management meeting with a team that presumably knew about the plans but didn’t say anything.
It’s not unexpected, the challenge I suppose of coming from the wrong side of the fence – in this case from the company that has recently been acquired! Nonetheless, it certainly put a dampener on the festivities leading up to Christmas.
Onwards and upwards!
After yesterday’s storms, woke up this morning to clear blue skies – what a contrast. Went out for an early morning walk on the banks of the Thames and took some amazing photographs (even if I say so myself). I really enjoy photography and have commenced a diploma course to really get to understand what it takes to create consistently great photos. Didn’t appreciate just how complicated it all was before starting the course, but certainly getting to grips with it all now.
I’m probably more suited to landscapes that portraits at the moment but I’m just in the process of ordering proper backdrops and lighting kit so watch out the fashion world, I’m gearing up….
As my daughter informed me earlier, only six more sleeps until Santa arrives. Need a good day tomorrow to clear up a lot of things so that I can concentrate over the weekend on getting all my presents sorted and wrapped – nothing like being on the last minute.
Any ideas for the wife who has everything?
